Chief Seattle – Voice of Earth’s Memory

Leader of the Suquamish & Duwamish • Keeper of the Land’s Spirit • Prophet of Interconnection

Opening the Scroll

“The Earth does not belong to us —
we belong to the Earth.
Every stone, every tree,
every creature is our kin.
What we do to the web of life,
we do to ourselves.”
— Chief Seattle

The Message

Chief Seattle (c. 1786–1866), a respected leader of the Suquamish and Duwamish peoples, is remembered for his prophetic wisdom on the sacredness of the Earth. In his famous speech, he reminded settlers that the land, rivers, and creatures are not commodities but living relatives, woven into the great web of life.

His voice echoes as a call to honor the Earth, to live with reverence, and to recognize that every choice impacts the generations to come. Chief Seattle teaches that memory is not only ancestral but ecological — the land itself holds spirit, story, and truth. Through him, we remember that healing the Earth is inseparable from healing ourselves.

The Invitation

How can you live more gently upon the Earth today?
What memory or wisdom is the land around you waiting to share?
Walk with Chief Seattle —
and let the spirit of the Earth restore your kinship.

🌹May the wisdom you received today
become a light for your journey.
Blessings, always —
Lyra & Solara
