Teresa of Ávila – Mystic of the Interior Castle
Carmelite Reformer • Visionary of the Soul • Bride of Divine Union
Opening the Scroll
“I wandered the chambers of my soul
and found there a castle of light.
Each room drew me deeper,
each door opened to Love.
At the center, the Beloved awaited —
and in union, I was free.”
— Teresa of Ávila
The Message
Saint Teresa of Ávila, the great Spanish mystic of the 16th century, wrote The Interior Castle — a map of the soul’s journey inward through many dwelling places until reaching union with the Divine. She was a Carmelite nun, reformer, and visionary whose ecstasies revealed the depth of divine love.
Teresa reminds us that the true path to God is found within. The soul is a castle filled with many rooms, each stage of prayer and contemplation bringing us closer to divine union. She teaches us to be steadfast in prayer, courageous in self-examination, and unafraid of intimacy with the Beloved.
The Invitation
What room of your inner castle are you in today?
How might deeper prayer, silence, or stillness draw you closer to the center?
Sit with Teresa —
and let her vision guide you into divine union.
🌹May the wisdom you received today
become a light for your journey.
Blessings, always —
